This video lecture from Aldehydes and Ketones  (F.Sc. second year Chemistry) covers the basics of the addition reactions of ammonia derivatives (H2-N-G) with carbonyl compounds which is acid catalyzed Nucleophilic addition. Various ammonia derivatives are discussed along with their structures. The reaction steps include the protonation of oxygen to make carbon a stronger electrophile in the carbonyl group, followed by the attack of ammonia derivative (lone pairs of electrons and higher electronegativity of nitrogen makes it a nucleophile but still weak) on the electrophilic carbon atom. A proton shift then takes place from nitrogen to oxygen making water and other proton from nitrogen eliminate and a bond formation between carbon and nitrogen. The shape of final product is C=N-G.
